FAQ

Does Physical Therapy have to be painful to be effective?
Here at Ascension Physical Therapy we believe therapy is more effective when pain is reduced. Pain causes swelling and muscle guarding which decreases circulation and irritates the central nervous system. We focus on pain free exercise and manual therapy techniques to reduce pain, swelling, and muscle guarding.

How long is a treatment session?
Our sessions are 45 minutes one on one with a therapist.

How many visits do I need before I am done with therapy?
Each individual is different based on their injury, their other health concerns, and how long they have had the injury. However, we always have a goal of making you independent in your care as quickly as possible.

Do I need a referral?
Alaska is a direct access state, which means, no; you do not need a referral from a physician to come to physical therapy in Alaska. However, many insurances require proof of medical necessity for physical therapy so be sure to check with your insurance provider.

What if my referral is to another clinic?
Your prescription for physical therapy is valid at any clinic you choose, your insurance provider will honor it even if it is made out to another clinic.
